Adrien Philippe invented the self-winding feature for watches based on hand movement.  So when he teamed up with Swiss pocket watch maker Antoni Patek in 1845, good things were bound to happen.  They probably couldn’t have guess that nine months ago one of their pocket watches would be sold for a world record $11 million.  Popes, Kings, and more – you name it, they’ve all worn and still wear Patek Philippes.  Identified by model number, the 5098P was modeled after the 1925 model.  Platinum cased, the underbelly exposes the machine through a sapphire-crystal window.  Gold dial, Aligator band – and best of all, water resistant to 30 meters. A classic. $45,000 BUY

While perhaps not the best looking watch, it is hard to find others that have a built-in distress transmitter. Yes, next time you get that “I think I need an airforce to come get me” feeling, just unscrew that bottom knob, and pull the cord. You will immediately alert any plane within 90 nautical miles, and 20,000 feet altitude. Go on….you know you need it. For $4,674 you’ll never feel lonely again, you will always have a search and rescue team on your wrist.
